Breakdown was and is a pure hard rock band influenced by the 70´s (Jimmy Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Johnny Winter, Lynyrd Skynyrd,ZZTop, Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper etc.) They were formed in Athens (Greece) in the summer of 1977. From 1977 to 1982 they played at many different venues and the most frequent club they performed in was the Rock Club Tiffanys in Plaka,Athens.Other places were Ledra and Skylab.They also performed in many concerts that took place in several cinemas through out Athens.(During this period many cinemas held music concerts) Breakdown played popular covers of the 70´s and they also composed their own songs. In 1982 in the Kittaro Club(Athens) in a band competition,Breakdown performed as one of the best bands in the contest. In 1985 they released their 1st record. This first release incorporated several musicians (Manos Spyrou on synthesizers, G.Giarelis on drums). They made many appearances to promote their new songs at different discotheques over Athens as part of the Record Company´s contract with the group. Breakdown took part in a record collection with several Greek rock groups that was released at the beginning of 1986. From 1986 to 1988 Breakdown had a new drummer Nikos Iliadis (Nicki Loud) they recorded a demo tape with new songs and performed as a trio in many clubs throughout Athens. In the beginning of 1988 they decided to stop performing together for several reasons. Sadly their good friend and drummer Nicki Loud prematurely passed away in 1989. Breakdown started meeting again in the year 2005 after 17 years and have decided to play again,´just for fun´,as they enjoy playing rock music and like performing.
Following the reunion of the group in 2006, they brought out a CD album comprising of songs written during the early parts of their career.
The CD includes 17 songs written between 1977 and 1987 and recorded intermittently at various studios.
The album, ´Songs from the early years´ is a collector album (8 page Special Limited Edition CD) and includes an analytical biography of the band with lyrics and photo´s.
The Hard Rock sound is influenced by the 70´s and 80´s era but with their own personal style.
